DMSO and OUR PETS
Anything from bites and scratches to the more serious injuries like fractures can and should be treated with DMSO! It is as safe on our pets as it is on us humans. Needless to say that serious injuries should be seen to by a vet, but as a first aid treatment, always use DMSO!
DMSO is available in a veterinary grade but should never be used. It is cheaper, not pure and contains acetone which can lead to liver damage. This grade of DMSO is generally used on horses.
Never use undiluted DMSO on your pet! The highest concentration I recommend is a 30-50% solution, mixed with water. If possible, do not bandage the affected area. The animal will also lick the wound and thereby ingesting the DMSO, which will speed up the healing process.
If the wound is covered, spray the DMSO solution on the bandages, replacing them daily.
A slight drawback when using DMSO on your pets, they will have that characteristic DMSO smell! This will quickly clear up once you stop using DMSO.
